ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Line lock

Line lock is a button or device that helps racecar drivers keep their car from moving while they warm up the tires before a race. It's like putting a big handbrake on one wheel of the car so that it stays in place, even if the driver steps on the gas pedal. This helps the tires to grip the road better when the race starts so that the car can go faster. Think of it like when you're playing with your toy car, and you push it along with your hand before letting it go. The line lock does this for the racecar, but with a special brake that only works on one wheel. Once the race has started, the line lock is released, and the car can take off as fast as it can go!
