Lisp machine

Okay kiddo, do you remember playing with Legos? Well, a Lisp machine is kind of like a really special Lego set for computers.

You know how you have to snap the blocks together just right to build something cool? Well a Lisp machine is a special computer that is built specifically to run a special kind of computer language called Lisp. It's like a computer that speaks a different language than the regular ones you use every day.

Now, just like some Lego sets have pieces that only work with that set, these computers have special hardware and software that only work for running Lisp. This makes them really good at doing certain kinds of tasks, like complex mathematical calculations and sorting through lots of information really quickly.

Lisp machines are kind of like having a super tool that can do things regular tools can't. They were popular in the 1980s and 1990s but aren't used as much today because regular computers have gotten better at doing the things Lisp machines were really good at.

But even though they aren't used as much anymore, some people still think they're really cool and interesting to play with and learn about.
