ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Lixia

Lixia is like a big bowl for water in the ground that helps plants grow. Imagine you have a garden and you want your plants to grow big and strong. But sometimes it doesn't rain for a long time and your plants get very thirsty. That's where lixia comes in.

Lixia is usually made of hard materials like cement, brick or clay, and it looks like a big basin or bowl that is buried in the ground. The top of the lixia is open and when it does rain, the water goes into the opening and fills up the lixia, kind of like when you pour water into a cup.

Once the lixia is full of water, your plants can drink it even when it's not raining anymore. The roots of the plants can grow down into the lixia to get the water they need. It's like having a big glass of water for your plants to drink from whenever they need it.

Lixia is very helpful for people who live in places where it doesn't rain a lot. It helps them grow more food and have pretty gardens even when it's dry outside. It's like having a secret source of water for your plants to drink from whenever they want.
