ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Local ring

A local ring is like a special kind of store where you can only buy things from one seller who lives nearby. Think of it like your neighborhood candy store where you can only buy candy from the person who owns the store and nobody else. In a local ring, there is a special point called the "center" where all the magic happens. The center is where the seller lives and where all the important decisions are made. Nobody else outside of the neighborhood can sell things in this store, so it's unique and special just like the owner of the store. The things you buy from this store are called "elements" and they're like different types of candy you can buy. But, unlike a regular candy store, there are special rules when you buy things from this store. For example, if you buy two types of candy, you might not be able to combine them together. This is because some elements don't mix well with each other. In the same way, some elements in a local ring can't be added or multiplied together. But even with these special rules, a local ring is still a great place to shop because it has its own unique flavor and special way of doing things that make it a valuable part of the neighborhood.
