Localism Act 2011

Okay kiddo, so do you know what laws are? They are rules that our government makes to help keep everyone safe and happy.

Now, the Localism Act is a law that was made by the government in 2011. It's all about giving more power to local communities across England and Wales.

You see, before this, a lot of the important decisions were made by the central government, which is in charge of the whole country. But the Localism Act said that some of these decisions can now be made by people who live in each local community, so they get a bigger say in how things are done.

This means that people like your mum and dad, your neighbours and friends can have more say in what happens in your town or city. They can even change things like how much council tax you have to pay, or where new buildings can be built.

The Localism Act also helps people to set up local groups to improve their communities, like neighbourhood watch groups or community gardens.

So, in short, the Localism Act gives more power to local communities to make their own decisions and helps them to make their area a better place to live.
