Lombard Street riot

Well, kiddo, a long time ago there was a place called Lombard Street in the city of Baltimore. People who lived in that area were mostly recent immigrants and they were very upset because they were really poor and had a hard life.

One day, in July 1861, there was a war going on in the country between the North and the South. Baltimore was a Southern city but some people supported the North, while others supported the South.

A group of soldiers who supported the North were passing through Lombard Street on their way to Washington D.C. Suddenly, some angry people in the street started throwing rocks and bricks at them, and soon things got really out of control. It turned into a huge brawl between the soldiers and the people who lived on Lombard Street.

The soldiers ended up shooting their guns, and that's when it became very dangerous. People were running and screaming, some were injured, and some sadly lost their lives.

This whole situation is known as Lombard Street Riot and it went on for a few days. It was a scary time for everyone involved and a lot of people suffered because of the violence. Nowadays, people try to learn from this event to prevent similar things from happening again, so that everyone can live together in peace and harmony.
