ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Lombardi-Nash

Okay kiddo, have you ever played a game with your friends and tried to figure out the best way for everyone to win? That's kind of what Lombardi-Nash is all about.

Imagine you and your friends are playing a game of kickball. Each one of you wants to score points for your team, but you also want to make sure that you don't get "out" or lose points. In Lombardi-Nash, each player tries to make the best decision for themselves while also taking into account what the other players will do.

Let's say you're up to bat and you know your friend James is a really good fielder. You could just kick the ball as hard as you can and hope for the best, but if James catches it, you'll be out. So instead, you might decide to kick the ball in a different direction where James isn't standing, so you have a better chance of scoring a point for your team.

The Lombardi-Nash idea is that each player will try to choose their best possible strategy for the game based on what they think the other players will do. So James, the fielder, will be thinking about where the other players might kick the ball, and trying to position himself in the best possible spot to catch it.

In the end, all the players will be trying to make their own best choices, while also considering what they think the other players are likely to do. The idea is that if everyone plays this way, it will lead to the best possible outcome for everyone involved.

So, just like in a game of kickball, in Lombardi-Nash, each player tries to choose their best strategy based on what they think the other players will do, with the hope of getting the best outcome for themselves and everyone else.
