ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Long filename

When you want to save a file, you usually give it a name so you can find it again later. Sometimes, the name you give it is really long - maybe even longer than 8 letters! This is called a long filename. It means you can give your file a name that really tells you what it is, like "My School Project About Dinosaurs" instead of just "DINO.PPT".

Before, computers only let you give files names that were 8 letters or less, like "DINO.PPT". This was because they had a limited amount of space to store information. But now, computers have more space to work with, so you can give your files longer and more descriptive names. It helps you keep track of your stuff and makes it easier to find things when you need them.
