Lonicera fly

The lonicera fly is a very tiny bug that likes to eat honeysuckle plants. Imagine the honeysuckle plant is like a candy store for the lonicera fly. The fly likes to land on the leaves of the plant and lay its eggs. The eggs hatch into tiny little maggots that eat the plant!

Now, this might not sound like a big deal, but it is for some places. For example, in parts of America where honeysuckle bushes grow out of control, the lonicera fly can make the problem even worse. If there are too many lonicera flies and they eat too much of the honeysuckle plant, there won't be enough left for other animals to eat. This can make it hard for other animals to find food and survive.

So, scientists are studying the lonicera fly to try and find ways to control their population without hurting any other plants or animals. They want to make sure there is enough food for everyone to thrive.
