ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Lord of Parliament

Ok kiddo, so imagine a big group of people who make decisions for a whole country. They are called Members of Parliament.

Now, some of these parliament people are extra special and important. They are called Lords. They are like the fancy people of parliament.

Back in the old days, the Lord of Parliament was the King or Queen's right-hand person. They did all sorts of important stuff like making laws and advising the government. But nowadays, the position of Lord of Parliament is mostly ceremonial.

It's kind of like being nominated to be the King or Queen's special friend at a party. You get to wear fancy clothes and go to cool events, but you don't really have any power to make decisions.

So, that's what the Lord of Parliament is all about. A fancy title for an important person, but not actually in charge of anything. Got it, kiddo?
