ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Losar

Losar is the New Year festival celebrated by people in Tibet and some nearby areas in India, Nepal, and Bhutan. Just like how we celebrate New Year's Eve, they celebrate Losar by having special foods, wearing new clothes, and spending time with family and friends.

During Losar, people also perform traditional rituals, like burning incense and offering special foods to deities, in order to bring in good luck for the coming year. They also clean their homes and decorate them with colorful items like flags and flowers.

Losar lasts for about 15 days and is considered a time of renewal and reflection. It's a chance for people to put aside any bad feelings from the past year and start fresh for the one ahead. For centuries, Losar has been an important part of the Tibetan culture and traditions, and continues to be celebrated to this day.
