ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Low arousal theory

Low arousal theory is the idea that when our brains are not very stimulated, we feel bored or sleepy. Just like how when you're bored in class, and you start to nod off. People who follow the low arousal theory think that if we want to be productive, we need to stimulate our brains with things that are fun or interesting.

Think of your brain as a sleepy cat. If it's just lying around, it's not going to be very active. But if you give that cat a fun toy or a treat, it will start to wake up, look around, and become more energetic. Your brain is the same way. When it's not stimulated, it's going to be less active, and you'll feel tired or uninterested.

So, to apply this to everyday life, let's say you have a boring task to do. Maybe it's cleaning your room or doing your homework. If you start to feel sleepy or uninterested, you could try to make the task more interesting. Maybe you could listen to music while you clean, or find a way to make math equations into a game. By adding something stimulating to the task, you're waking up your brain and making it more active.

In summary, low arousal theory suggests that when our brains are not stimulated, we feel bored or tired. To combat this, we can add something interesting or fun to wake up our brains and become more productive.
