ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Lumbago

Okay, so you know that sometimes your back hurts, right? Well, sometimes grown-ups also have back pain, but they call it lumbago. Lumbago means that someone's lower back hurts a lot.

You know how our body has a spine, which is like a long bone that helps us stand straight? The lower part of the spine is called the lumbar spine. When someone has lumbago, it means that something is making their lumbar spine hurt.

Now, the reasons why someone's lumbar spine hurts can be different for different people. Sometimes, it can be because they lifted something heavy or did too much running and jumping around. Other times, it can be because they have a bad mattress, or they sit in a chair with bad posture for a long time.

In any case, lumbago is not a good feeling, and it can make it hard for someone to move their body or sleep well at night. If someone has lumbago, they might need to rest their back, use ice or heat on it, take medicine, or even go see a doctor to get treatment.

So, remember, lumbago is just a fancy word for someone's lower back hurting a lot. But, if someone has lumbago, they should take care of themselves and get the help they need to feel better.
