ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Lunch counter

A lunch counter is like a little restaurant where you can get food quickly and easily. It's usually found in a bigger store, like a drugstore, and it's a place where you can sit and eat your food right there. Instead of a big kitchen where people cook your food, the lunch counter has a smaller area where they can make things like sandwiches and ice cream sundaes. There are usually bar stools for you to sit on while you eat, and the person who works at the lunch counter is called a "counterman" or "countergirl". They take your order and then make your food right in front of you!
