Lung on a chip

Okay Kiddo, have you ever blown up a balloon? Imagine that balloon is like your lungs. Your lungs help you breathe by taking in air and giving out carbon dioxide. Sometimes people get sick or have trouble breathing because something is wrong with their lungs.

Scientists are working on a special thing called Lung on a Chip to help understand how the lungs work and study diseases that affect them.

So, what is this Lung on a Chip? It's a tiny little device that has little tubes that look like the ones in our bodies that help us breathe. The tubes are so small that even we can't see them without a microscope.

Scientists can put tiny cells from our lungs onto these tiny tubes on the chip. These cells then start working just like they would in our lungs. Scientists can then study the cells on the Lung on a Chip and see how they react when they're given medicines or different types of germs that can make us sick.

This helps scientists learn more about the lungs so they can come up with new ways to treat and prevent lung diseases.

Isn't that cool, Kiddo? We can learn so much about our bodies and make them healthier by studying tiny things like Lung on a Chip.
