ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Lyric poetry

Lyric poetry is when people write words that are like a song, but they might not always be meant to be sung. It's kind of like a poem, but it usually has a rhythm or beat to it, like in a song, and it talks about how the person writing the words feels.

Imagine if you were really happy and wanted to express that feeling, you might write a lyric poem that says "I'm feeling so good today, everything's going my way. The sun is shining so bright, it's such a beautiful sight." That's an example of a lyric poem because it has a nice rhythm and talks about how you're feeling.

Another example would be if you were really sad or angry, you might write a lyric poem that talks about those feelings, like "I'm feeling so sad and blue, my heart is broken in two. I wish things could be different, but all I can do is be strong."

So, lyric poetry is like writing a song without music. It's a way to express your emotions and feelings through words that sound beautiful together.
