Médanos (geology)

Médanos are like big sand hills that are formed by the wind. You know when you go to the beach and you see sand being blown around by the wind? Well, the same thing happens in deserts and other areas with a lot of sand.

The wind blows the sand around and builds up little piles. Over time, these piles get bigger and bigger and eventually turn into médanos. They can be really tall and can move around the landscape if the wind changes direction.

Médanos can be found all over the world, but they’re most common in deserts and other areas with dry, sandy soil. They can be pretty cool to look at and play in, but it’s important to be careful because the sand can shift and move unexpectedly.
