Mühlsteinbrüche

Mühlsteinbrüche are places where big rocks, called millstones, are taken out of the ground. These millstones are very important because they are used to grind things like grain into flour or coffee beans into coffee.

To get the millstones out of the ground, people use big machines or tools to break them apart from the rock they are stuck to. Once the millstone is free, it is taken to a place where it can be shaped and smoothed out, so it is just the right size and shape.

Mühlsteinbrüche were very important a long, long time ago when people didn't have machines to grind their food. These days, we use machines to do a lot of the work, but millstones are still important for special kinds of grinding. So, people still go to mühlsteinbrüche to get the millstones they need.
