ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

MLS SuperDraft

Okay, so imagine you're playing with a group of friends and you need to pick teams. You take turns choosing people, and everyone wants the best players on their team, right? Well, that's kind of like what the MLS SuperDraft is for soccer teams.

Before the start of each season, soccer teams in the United States and Canada get to choose new players from a big group of college soccer players. It's like a big, official playground kick-around with all the best college players in the country.

The draft is split up into a few different rounds, kind of like how you might take turns choosing people to be "it" or not "it" during a game of tag. Each team gets a turn to choose a player, and they have to make their pick within a certain amount of time. But here's the thing-- not all players are created equal, right? Some of them are really good, and some of them might not be as good yet. So, the teams have to do their research and try to choose the best players they can for their specific team's needs.

Once the draft is over, those players officially become part of the team. They might have to work really hard to make it onto the field during games, but they're all part of the same squad. And hopefully, the team made some smart choices during the draft that will help them succeed throughout the season!
