Macroecology

Macroecology is the study of really BIG patterns in nature. Just like how we can look at a big picture or a map and see patterns in the landscape, macroecologists can look at all the different kinds of plants and animals in different areas and see patterns too.

Imagine you have a bunch of puzzle pieces with different shapes and colors. If you start putting them together, you might notice that certain pieces only fit with certain other pieces, or that certain colors tend to be in certain areas of the picture. Macroecology is like putting together a really big puzzle made up of all the plants and animals in the world, and figuring out how they fit together and why they live in certain places.

Macroecologists study things like how many different species live in different parts of the world, what kinds of traits (like size or color) certain groups of animals have, and how things like climate and geography affect where different plants and animals can live. By looking at these big patterns, scientists can learn a lot about how ecosystems function and how they might be impacted by things like climate change or human activity.
