The Magnetospheric Multiscale Mission (MMS) is made up of four spacecraft that are currently orbiting Earth to study the planet's magnetic field. The spacecraft measure rapidly changing magnetic fields, energies, and particles around Earth. The magnetic field surrounds Earth like a big bubble and helps protect our planet from dangerous particles that come from the sun. By studying these magnetic fields and particles, scientists will be able to understand better how the magnetic field works, and how it helps protect us.
