Malt

Malt is made from grains like barley, wheat or rye.

When farmers grow these grains, they dry and store them in big silos. Then, the grains are soaked in water to start the process of making malt.

Once the grains are wet, they are spread out and kept warm for a few days. This helps them start to grow little shoots. The shoots are then dried out and roasted in an oven.

When the grains are roasted, they turn brown and get a yummy toasty flavor. The brown roasted grains are then crushed into small pieces called malt.

Malt is used in lots of things like bread, pretzels, and most importantly, beer! Brewers use malt to create the sugar that turns into alcohol when yeast is added to the mixture.

So basically, malt is a yummy ingredient that helps make lots of tasty foods and drinks, especially beer!
