ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Manhattanhenge

Manhattanhenge is a special event that happens twice a year in New York City when the setting sun perfectly aligns with the east-west streets on the grid-like map of Manhattan. Imagine looking down on a big map of Manhattan, and you see that the streets are arranged in a very organized way, like a big checkerboard. Normally, the sun rises in the east and sets in the west, but twice a year, the sun lines up exactly with the grid and you can see the sunset at the end of every street! It's like someone has flipped a big light switch and all the streets light up with orange, red, and yellow colors from the setting sun. It's a really cool and beautiful sight, and lots of people come out to watch and take pictures of the event. It's like a super special show that only happens a couple of times a year in New York City!
