Maquis shrubland

A maquis shrubland is a type of area where there are lots of little shrub plants growing close together. It can be found in places where the weather is warm and dry, like in the Mediterranean region.

Imagine you have a big garden, but instead of having big trees and grassy meadows, you have lots of little bushes all over the place. These bushes are called maquis, and they can grow up to about your shoulders.

The maquis shrubs are very important because they help protect the soil from erosion, which means the soil won't get washed away by rain or wind. They also provide homes for lots of different animals, like lizards and mice.
