Marine ecoregions

Marine ecoregions are like neighborhoods in the ocean. Just like houses that are close to each other and have similar characteristics, ecoregions are areas in the ocean that are close to each other and have similar ocean conditions, like the temperature or the amount of salt in the water.

Each ecoregion has different types of animals and plants that live there, just like your neighborhood may have different types of trees or animals than your friend's neighborhood down the street. Scientists use different factors, like the depth of the water and the type of plants and animals found there, to decide which ecoregion an area of the ocean belongs to.

There are many different marine ecoregions all around the world, each with its own unique characteristics and wildlife. Understanding these ecoregions can help us better protect the ocean and the animals that call it home.
