ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Marine mammal

Marine mammals are animals that live in the water and are different from fish because they have lungs and need to come to the surface to breathe air just like humans do. Some examples of marine mammals are seals, sea lions, dolphins, whales, and manatees.

These animals are specially adapted to living in the water with features like flippers, streamlined bodies, and a layer of blubber to keep them warm. They can communicate using clicks, whistles, and songs and some of them can even mimic human speech!

Marine mammals are very important to the ecosystem because they play a role in regulating the food chain and helping to keep the ocean healthy. Unfortunately, some of these animals are threatened or endangered due to factors like pollution, climate change, and overfishing. It's important for us to protect them and their habitats so they can continue to thrive in the ocean.
