ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Marinière

Marinière is a very special kind of shirt that people in France like to wear. It's a type of shirt that is usually white with thin stripes that are blue. The stripes look like little lines that are all next to each other. Just like a candy cane has stripes, but Marinière's stripes are blue and white instead of red and white.

The reason Marinière is so special is because it was originally worn by sailors a long time ago. Sailors are people who go out on boats and ships to travel across the sea. When they wore Marinière shirts, it helped them look really official and part of a team. Plus the blue stripes on the white shirt made them easy to see from far away, so their shipmates could spot them easily while working in the sea.

Nowadays though, Marinière has become a big fashion trend in France. People of all ages love to wear Marinière shirts with other clothes like jeans or shorts. And even though it's not just for sailors anymore, it's still really cool to wear Marinière because it reminds us of the ocean and the cool breezes that come with sea air.
