ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Martyr complex

Okay kiddo, let me try to explain what a martyr complex is.

A martyr complex is when someone constantly plays the victim and thinks the world is against them. They believe they are constantly sacrificing for others while receiving little to no appreciation in return. They tend to exaggerate their sufferings and use it to gain sympathy and support from others.

It's almost like a person wants to feel like a hero and seeks validation by sacrificing for others. Sometimes, they might even go out of their way to make sacrifices for others, even if it's not necessary.

But the problem is, this way of thinking can be very unhealthy because it can lead to burnout and even resentment towards others who don't seem to appreciate their sacrifices. In short, a martyr complex makes a person feel like they are always the victim, and never get the recognition they deserve.

So remember, it's important to help others, but not at the cost of our own well-being. We should always try to balance our own needs and the needs of others.
