ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Mason's rule

Mason's Rule is a way of looking at a group of numbers and figuring out what the biggest number is. We can imagine it like a game:

1. Think of a group of numbers like 4, 8, 15, 16, 23, 42
2. Now put them in order from smallest to biggest - 4, 8, 15, 16, 23, 42
3. Now look at the numbers in groups of two - 4, 8; 15, 16; 23, 42
4. Look at the numbers on the right side of each group - 8, 16, 42
5. The biggest number is 42 - that's Mason's Rule!
