Mass decontamination

Okay kiddo! Imagine you were playing with dirt outside and got really dirty. Now imagine you wanted to clean all of the dirt off before coming inside. That's kind of like what mass decontamination is, but instead of dirt it's something harmful to people like chemicals.

In mass decontamination, lots of people need to be cleaned all at once because something bad is on their skin or clothes. This usually happens after a disaster like a chemical spill or explosion.

First, everyone needs to take off their clothes because the bad stuff can get trapped in them. Then, they all line up and walk through a shower or special area where clean water or a cleaning solution is sprayed onto them. This helps wash away the bad stuff and get everyone clean.

After they walk through the shower or cleaning area, they get a new set of clothes to put on so they aren't naked or cold. This helps everyone stay safe and healthy after a disaster.

Sometimes, doctors or paramedics will also be around to make sure everyone is okay and help anyone who needs it. It's important to get cleaned up fast so everyone can stay healthy and safe.
