Matthew the Evangelist

Matthew the Evangelist was a really important guy in the Bible a long, long time ago. He was one of Jesus' friends, and he wrote a book about Jesus' life called the Gospel of Matthew. A gospel is like a big story about someone special, and Matthew's gospel tells us all about the things that Jesus did and said while he was alive.

Even though Matthew was really good friends with Jesus, he wasn't always the nicest person before he met him! In fact, he used to work for the Romans as a tax collector, which meant he would take money from people and give it to the people in charge. This made a lot of people really angry because they didn't like the Romans, but then one day Jesus came along and asked Matthew to follow him. And he did!

Matthew was so amazed by Jesus' teachings and the things he did that he decided to write them down so that other people could learn about Jesus too. And that's how the Gospel of Matthew was born!

Now, people all around the world read Matthew's gospel and learn about Jesus and the amazing things he did. So even though Matthew wasn't always the nicest guy before he met Jesus, he ended up doing something super important by writing down his story and sharing it with the world.
