Okay kiddo, have you ever heard of Mauna Kea? It's a big volcano in Hawaii! And right next to it, there's a place called the Adz Quarry.
So, way before we had fancy tools and machines, people had to make things out of rocks using their hands. And in the Adz Quarry, people would get really special rocks called basalt to make special tools called adzes. Adzes were like axes, but they were used for carving and shaping wood.
The people who used to live near Mauna Kea were really skilled at making adzes, and they would trade them with other people. They would also use the adzes to help build homes and boats.
Nowadays, the Adz Quarry is a really important place for archaeologists to study and learn more about how the people of Hawaii used to live a long, long time ago. We can learn so much from the rocks they left behind!
