Maya mythology is a collection of stories and beliefs shared by the Maya people of Central America. The Maya were a civilization that existed more than 3,000 years ago and they believed in many gods, monsters, and heroes. For example, their god Kukulkan was believed to bring good luck and prosperity, while the rain god Chaac could cause floods and droughts. Other famous Maya gods included Ixchel, the goddess of weaving and childbirth, and Ah Puch, the god of death. There were also stories about shape-shifting monsters, magical white dogs, and heroic warriors like the brave twin brothers Hunahpu and Ixbalanque. All these stories can still be found in Maya books and sculptures today.
