The McLibel case is about two people called Helen Steel and Dave Morris who were arrested for saying mean things about McDonalds, the fast food company. They were unhappy with how McDonald’s treated their staff and animals, so they printed leaflets and put them in the streets. McDonalds didn’t like this, so they sued Helen and Dave, saying they had said mean things about them and it wasn’t fair.
In the court, Helen and Dave had to prove that what they said was true and that they didn't mean to be mean. After a long court battle, the judge said that even though some of what Helen and Dave said was wrong, they were telling the truth about some things too. The judge said that Helen and Dave were not guilty of being mean or saying lies about McDonalds.
