Mechanical heat treatment

Let's say you have a piece of metal that is soft and easy to bend. If we want to make it stronger so it can't bend as easily, we can heat it up to a certain temperature and then cool it down really quickly. This process is called quenching. It's like when you take a boiled egg and put it in cold water really fast to cool it down.

Another way we can use mechanical heat treatment is by heating up the metal to a certain temperature and then letting it cool down slowly. This process is called annealing. It makes the metal softer and easier to work with.

So, basically, mechanical heat treatment is when we heat up materials in a special way to make them stronger or change their shape. It's like baking a cake – you have to put it in the oven at the right temperature for the right amount of time to get it just right.
