ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Mechanics lien

A mechanics lien is like holding onto a toy until someone pays you for it. If someone does work on a building or property, like fixing a leaky roof or building a new room, they can put a mechanics lien on the property so that they get paid for their work. It's like saying "Hey, I worked hard on this and I want to make sure I get paid for it before you can sell or change the property." If the person who did the work doesn't get paid, they can take legal action to make sure they get their money. So, like when you hold onto a toy until someone pays you for it, a mechanics lien is a way for people to make sure they get paid for their hard work on a property.
