Median household income

Median household income is the amount of money that an average household earns in a year. Imagine you have a group of 10 households, and you line them up from the lowest earning to the highest. Median household income is the money that the 5th household in line makes each year. This means, in this group of 10, half of the households make more money than the 5th household, and half make less.
