Meikle Millbank Mill

Meikle Millbank Mill is a big building where people used to make things called textiles. Textiles are things like fabrics that you can use to make clothes or blankets. The mill is kind of like a big factory!

Back in the olden days, people would bring cotton or wool to the mill, and the machines inside the mill would turn it into fabric. The machines would spin the cotton or wool into long, thin strands called yarn, and then weave the yarn together to make fabric.

There were lots of big machines inside the mill, like looms and spinning frames. These machines were powered by water that flowed from a nearby river called the River Don. The water would turn big wheels called water wheels, and the water wheels would power the machines to make the fabric.

The people who worked in the mill were called mill workers. They worked very hard and for long hours. They would operate the machines, fix them if they broke, and clean them at the end of the day. It was a tough job, but it was important because it helped make clothes and other things that people needed.

Nowadays, the Meikle Millbank Mill is mostly a historical site. People can visit the mill to learn about what life was like for mill workers in the olden days. They can see the machines and learn how they worked. It's a really interesting place to visit!
