Membership discrimination in California clubs

Okay, imagine you have a really cool toy that you love to play with. Now, you also have some friends that you like to play with, but one day you find out that they won't let you play with them anymore just because of the way you look, or where you come from, or something else that you can't help.

Well, that's what is happening to some people in California who want to join certain clubs. These clubs are like big groups of friends who do things like play golf or go swimming together. But some of these clubs only let certain people in, and they don't let other people in just because of who they are.

This is called membership discrimination, and it's not okay. It means that some people are being left out of these clubs just because they are a different race, or religion, or gender than the people who are already members. And that's not fair.

In California, there are laws that say it's not okay to discriminate against someone because of their race, religion, or gender. So, if someone wants to join one of these clubs and they are being kept out just because of who they are, they can tell the people running the club that what they are doing is against the law.

Sometimes these clubs have to change their rules and let more people in. Other times, the people running the club will just need to be reminded that everyone should be treated equally, no matter what they look like or where they come from.
