ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Memory (computing)

Okay, so imagine your brain as a big room where you keep all your toys and stuff. Your memory in a computer is like a special shelf in that room where you can put certain things you want to remember.

When you use a computer, it needs to remember things like what programs you have open, what files and documents you are working on, and what websites you have visited. This is where the memory comes in. It's like a temporary storage area that keeps track of all that stuff the computer needs to remember while you are using it.

But, unlike your room where you can just keep adding toys and clutter to the shelf, the computer's memory has a certain limit. Once it's full, it can't remember any more things until you close some programs or files to make room.

So, in a nutshell, memory in a computer is a special shelf where the computer stores important things it needs to remember while you are using it, but there's only so much space available.
