Mendelian traits are traits which can be passed down from parents to their children. To understand how this works, it's helpful to think about humans like a game of Lego where each piece is a trait. When a baby is born, it gets some of its traits from its parents (just like it gets Lego pieces from them), and these are Mendelian traits. For example, if a baby's parents both have blue eyes, then the baby is likely to have blue eyes - this is because blue eyes are a Mendelian trait. Another example of a Mendelian trait is the colour of a person's hair - if a baby's parents both have brown hair, it's likely the baby will too!
