ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Menu (computing)

Imagine a restaurant, but instead of a physical paper menu, there is a list of options on a computer screen. This is called a menu in computing. It's a way for you to quickly find and choose what you want to do on the computer.

Just like in a restaurant, each option on the menu represents something you can order. For example, you might see options like "File," "Edit," or "View." These are like different categories of food on a restaurant menu. Under each option or category, there are more specific choices, just like how there are different dishes under each category on a restaurant menu.

You can use your mouse or keyboard to select an option on the menu, just like you would tell the waiter your order. Once you've made your choice, the computer will do what you asked it to do.

Menus can be found in many different computer applications, such as web browsers, word processors, and even video games. They help you navigate through the different functions that are available on your computer, so you can easily find what you need without having to search all over the place.
