Mesopotamian mythology

Mesopotamia was a place a long, long time ago where people lived. They had their own beliefs and stories about how the world and everything in it was created.

One of their most important gods was named An, he was the god of the sky. They believed that he was in charge of keeping the sky up and everything in it. Another god they had was named Enki, he was the god of the water. They thought he was the one that made the rivers and oceans so that people could drink and grow food.

There were also some stories about how humans were created. They believed that the gods mixed dirt and water together to make a man and a woman. Then, the god Enki put the breath of life into them so that they could breathe and live.

Another story they had was about a great flood that covered the whole world. The gods were mad at the humans and wanted to destroy everything. But one good person named Utnapishtim was saved by building a big boat and taking two of every animal with him. After the flood ended, he sent out a bird to see if there was any dry land and eventually the boat landed on a mountain.

Mesopotamians also believed in monsters and demons. For example, there was a monster named Humbaba who lived in the forest and was very scary. They thought that he would try and eat anyone who came near him. But they also believed that some heroes could defeat him and become famous.
