Metasomatism

Okay kiddo, so you know how rocks are made of different minerals and they form in the Earth's crust or mantle over millions of years? Sometimes, these rocks can go through a transformation process called metasomatism.

Metasomatism happens when a rock comes into contact with fluids like water or magma. These fluids can change the minerals in the rock by dissolving some minerals and adding new ones.

Imagine you have a cookie, and you dip it into milk. The milk seeps into the cookie and changes its texture and taste, right? That's kind of like what happens with rocks and fluids.

Now, when fluids interact with the minerals in the rock, it can create new minerals that weren't there before. This can even lead to the creation of valuable minerals like gold or diamonds!

Metasomatism is an important process for geologists because it can give clues about the Earth's history and the conditions under which rocks formed.

So, in summary, metasomatism is like dipping a cookie in milk - it's a process that changes rocks by adding or dissolving minerals through the action of fluids.
