Okay kiddo, so you know how there are lots of different types of churches with different beliefs? Well, a metropolitan community church is a special kind of church that was started to help people who might not feel welcome at other churches because of who they are.
You see, some churches only allow certain people to come, like only boys or only people who believe a certain way. But metropolitan community churches are different. They welcome EVERYONE, no matter if they are a boy or a girl, black or white, gay or straight.
These churches started in the 1960s when lots of people were fighting for equal rights for everyone. People who were part of the LGBTQ+ community (which stands for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer) were feeling very left out and not welcome at most churches. So they started their own church, where they could feel accepted and loved.
Now, there are lots of metropolitan community churches all around the world, and they are still helping people who might not feel welcome at other churches. They believe that everyone is valuable and important, and that we should all be treated with love and kindness, no matter who we are or who we love.
