ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Middle initial

So you know when you write your name on papers at school, you write your first name, then your last name? Well, some people have another letter in the middle of their name, and it's called their middle initial.

For example, if your name is John Smith, your middle initial would be the first letter of your middle name, if you have one. So if your middle name is Alexander, your middle initial would be "A".

It's kind of like having a special nickname for your name. Some people use their middle initial when they write their name, or it might be used by other people when they talk about them or introduce them.
