ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Mikio Sato

Mikio Sato was a very smart man who studied math and physics, and he had a special way of looking at things called "sheaf theory." Essentially, he found a way to organize information, kind of like putting things into different drawers, so that people could better understand complicated mathematical concepts, like how things move and interact in space. This helped scientists and mathematicians solve really difficult problems, and even led to new discoveries in things like string theory and quantum mechanics. Overall, Sato was like a really good puzzle solver, but instead of fitting together pieces of a jigsaw puzzle, he pieced together complicated mathematical ideas.
