ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Military occupations by the Soviet Union

The Soviet Union was a big country made up of lots of different pieces, kind of like a puzzle. In the 1940s, when World War II was over, it took over some of the pieces from the puzzle that it used to fight in the war. This is like if you were playing a game of Monopoly and one of the players took over all the properties they used to buy during the game. These pieces it took over are called military occupations because the Soviet Union had soldiers living there and in control. It was like the Soviet Union owned little pieces of the puzzle, even though they weren't all part of one country.
