ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Miscellaneous electric load

So, imagine the electricity in your house is like a big pizza. And different things in your house, like your TV or your computer, take slices of the pizza to work. But there are lots of other things in your house that also use a little bit of electricity but don't really take big slices of the pizza. These are things like your clock on the wall or the little light on your microwave.

All these little things that use a little bit of electricity are called miscellaneous electric loads, or MELs for short. Even though they don't use much electricity by themselves, when you add up all the MELs in your house, they can use a lot of electricity altogether.

So, it's important to be aware of your MELs and unplug things when you're not using them. That way, you can help save energy and money on your electricity bill!
