Mise en scène

Mise en scène is a fancy French word that means "putting in the scene". This is the way everything in a movie or play is placed and arranged for telling the story. It includes the setting, lighting, costumes, props, and even the way the actors move and speak.

Imagine playing with a toy farm set. You have to decide where the barn goes, where the animals are placed, what the characters are wearing, and what they are doing. In the same way, the people making a movie or play think about where everything should go, what colors to use, and how the actors will move and talk.

For example, if a movie takes place in a dark and scary forest, the mise en scène might include dim lighting, creepy trees, and spooky sounds. This helps the audience feel scared too. On the other hand, if the story is a happy musical, the mise en scène might include bright colors, lively dancing, and happy music.

So, mise en scène is all about creating the world of the story on stage or on screen. It helps the audience feel like they are really there and understand what's going on in the story.
